I am a single professional woman, no kids, 2 cats. Here is my situation...
In February I had to move out of my apartment of 5 years because my landlord's sister was going to move-in. My ex-landlord gave me 90 day notice and was very flexible should I had needed more time. Well after 2 months of looking, I finally found an apartment that would accept cats and was within my means. My rent is used 1000.00 for a 1 bedroom.
Before moving in to this new apartment, the landlord and I talked about what we both expected from the agreement and I expressed my need for long term housing because of the difficulty that I have finding an apartment because of my cats.
I gave used 1650.00 as a deposit and partial rent of used 466.00. 2 weeks after moving in I had to pay the new months rent used 1000.00, which I did on time. I had communicated with the landlord several times during this time and there was never a mention of any problems and or concerns. On May 23, 2005, I received a 30 notice, notice to terminate vacancy. I have to be out by July 1st. There is no reason specified in the notice. Of course I called the landlord immediately and she apologized for the inconvenience but she stated that due to personal reasons they needed the apartment vacated.
I have done my research and I am aware that the landlord does not have to give me " just cause" but I feel like I have been wronged . In total I spent almost used 8000.00 moving into this apartment ( between the deposit , new furniture etc. ) which left my savings looking very slim. I had to pay my rent for June so I don't know where I will find the money to put down on another apartment. Is there anything I can do legally ?? As a hard working -renter, how is the law protecting me ?? Any advice would be appreciated , thanks !
