I have read most of the threads on the forum for tickets. This is a great forum. U guys rock. Anyways, I got a ticket a week ago in NY state for driving 80 in a 55 it says on the ticket "speed pace" under description of violation. The court is clarkstown in the city of new city in Rockland County New York. I was one exit from the Tappan Zee bridge on 287. I have no argument I probably was going 80. So i dont mind paying any sort of fees. I am only worried about points. I am a 24 year old student who was driving my parent's car. They are from new jersey and my license is in new jersey. I was in their car and am not covered under their car insurance. So i dont want anything getting back to their record. I have researched and know that jersey does record any out of state moving violation as 2 points on ur license. So if i plead guilty it will def mess up my parent's insurance i am assuming. I am 24 and have a sparkling clean driving record. No violations at all. What would be the best thing to do? If i went to court would it be possible for it to be lowered to a fine with no points? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
If interested in story behind ticket read on. Im not using it as an excuse, again i dont mind paying any sort of fees as much as they are, i just dont want points. T The story behind the ticket is i was behind someone doing the same speed as me. The cop was not behind me i know. As soon as i saw him i pulled out of the fast lane and slowed down to 70. He went by me got behind the person i was behind and put his sirens . Then changed lanes ahead of me. He waved me over to pull me over as well. He pulled over the exit which was very close. By the time i realized he was waving me over i almost slameed into the exit barrier to get on the exit. Very dangerous. He had us both pulled over. He was very stern and said i pulled u over for going 55 in an 80, took my info, and then walked away and gave me no chance to say anything. Then he gave me the ticket 5 min later and that was that. I dont really know if any of that story would mean anything in court.

I believe the points will follow your insurance, not your parents. Call your insurance company to find out.

Your story won't do anything to help you in court.

A lawyer has the best chance of minimizing the impact on you insurance.

A friend of mine was in a similar situation in Virginia. 80 on 55. He took driver improvement class and went to court 40 minutes early and got in touch with the prosecuter. The procecutor looked at his class certificate and good college record and agreed to minimize the charge to that of improper driving with one pt. or so.

I cannot say that this will work in your case also but I hope this information helps you in doing your research.
