My NYC co-op and managing agent are responsible for extensive damages and loss of wages caused by a raw sewage backup. They have already offered monetary damages for an illegal floor contractor they forced me to use who caused further damages to my apartment. However they wanted me to sign a general release that I refused to sign. There have been many illegal actions taken on the part of the board all for which I have proof (and they know it). They used plumbers without a permit that repaired a gas pipe behind my walls that my plumber (responsible for the inside work) saw and forced them to repair because it was the wrong piping that could have blown up the building. Many of the board members are attorneys so they have managed to cover up a lot of stuff, including forcing me through an approval process for the repairs inside and approving a contractor whose license was revoked, and that submitted fraudulent insurance paperwork and stole a $5000 deposit from me (I recovered this through small claims) My insurance has hired a lawyer and is fightling me over the scope. I have been run dry financially by being out of work due to the circumstances caused by my home being unlivable for a long duration after what happened initially, and by the actions and lack of actions taken by the board and building subsequent to the flood. I now have to sell my place because I cannot get back on my feet because of what initially happened, and how long it dragged out. Any advice would be much appreciated, especially if someone can point me to a laywer willing to work on contingency.
