Hopefully, I will post all the pertinent facts for your comments.

We live in NY and the incident occurred in a NYS park. I have a 17 year old that went camping over the weekend. There were several classmates, all under the age of 21. Apparently, other campers complained that the group was loud, and a NYS Park Patrol came to the campsites. Upon inspection of the tents, empty beer bottles were found in my daughter's tent. She has of course ASSURED her father and I that she was NOT drinking… (and I say that with the parent of a teenager sarcasm :p )... and was ticketed for 'minor in the possession of alcohol' because it was her tent.

The officer "advised" her to plead guilty on the back of the ticket, told her it was "similar" to a traffic ticket and she should expect a $250 fine. She has NOT signed the ticket.

My question… WHAT is this offense classified as??? Is this similar to a misdemeanor offense… will she now have a "criminal record".

Thanks for your thoughts!
