I have an 18 year old daughter who has a friend in Kansas who is the age of 16 and his parents have told her that she can be arrested based on the "obstruction of parental rights law" if she has any kind of contact with him. Including telephone calls, text messages and etc. Can the parents do this? He will be 17 in October does he have any rights to fight this issue with his parents? Confused mother in Kansas needs to know. Thanks

The parents of the CHILD can file for a restraining order to prevent your ADULT daughter from contacting their CHILD. Parents have a constitutional right to determine who has contact with their child. Period. End of story.

Now whether they can file a complaint for Custodial Interference would depend on what your daughter is actually doing. If she is texting this CHILD and and telling him to defy his parents by "running away" or meeting with her...Then yes. She could be charged. If she is texting anything sexual in words or pic's...She can be charged for that as well.

Tell your ADULT daughter to leave the child alone.

I agree he is a minor, she needs to leave the boy alone if his parents object.
