Obtaining full custody of my dog from my ex boyfriend

My question is regarding obtaining full custody of my dog from my ex boyfriend. We both purchased her with cash from a family that we found on craigslist in 2014. She is two years old and she is registered under him, and to the city that he lives in. Her ban field is under me, and I am the one who takes her to the vet and walks and runs her (when I have her). When we were together (recently split in May) he did not walk or run her. She is a Siberian Husky and needs lots of daily exercise, after talking to my vet she expressed that she was very concerned about Kota's behavior and health. I brought Kota in to get her teeth cleaned and returned her back to my ex's house that night. He stated that she attacked the other dog that has been living there with her and when I heard this i called the vet. Long story short the vet is very concerned about us trying to work out 'shared custody', Siberian Husky's are very high anxiety breeds and her lack of eating, lack of exercise (when she is at his house), and her attacking the other dog (completely out of character for her) is directly correlated to her 'living' at my ex boyfriend's house. He is a very verbally aggressive person and I am afraid that he will hurt her. He has hit her several times before when she was acting out when we were together. Kota is basically my daughter and I will do anything and everything possible to obtain full custody of her. I have tried to have several civil conversations with him about her, and he refuses to talk to me about her. He is threatening to never let me see her again. What can you do to help me, or point me to the right direction?

Courts don't award custody of animals, even dogs and cats, to adults.
Animals, even pets, are considered PROPERTY (as in chattel).
If he has the dog, he is considered the dog's owner.
There's no remedy for you, unless you can prove ownership, not simply as a caretaker; but an owner.
Evidence of ownership would be purchase documents in the purchaser's name.
Any vet bills paid, would simply be considered gifts to the dog's real owner.

You might ask why this is so?
Its because courts recognize persons as litigants, not legal incompetents (ie... children, as in minors); or property as in: goats, cats, fish, birds, dogs, mules, horses, monkeys, etc...!
