In December of 2000 I contacted the local gas company to have them repair my ex-wife furnace. I told them I had $200. dallors they said they would check it out and let me know if they could fix it for that. They went out and looked at the furnace for about 10 seconds (opened the closet door and closed it) then they went back outside and reran the gas line and replaced the regulator. They told her she had to do that before they could fix the furance. After they did that she was told it was already over the $200. dallors I had agreed to pay and unless she could pay the additional they could not do anything to the furnace. She told them she didn't have any money and would have to call me to see what to do. When she went to call me they left. Leaving her and my children without heat.
When I called they told me what they did and told me I would have to pay the $235. first, then they would go back to see if they could repair the furnace they said it would be an additional $200. to fix it. I had to get someone else out to fix it. It was less than $100. they also checked the regulator said it worked, and they did not believe the gas line had needed replaced either.
When I refused to pay they then billed her after she argued that she couldn't pay they started billing us both. After more than 2 years they went to court and won a default judgement against me because they sent the court summons to the wrong address.
After the courts judgement it changed from an adverse account to a public record and the date of the placement changed now it is dated to remain on my credit report untill the 8 month of 2010.
I was told the statue of limitations was 2 years which should have prevented the judgement against me in court? What date should the credit reporting agents use? Can a lender make me pay this before giving me a loan?

Why didn't you go to court? When did you find out about the judgment? If you had these complaints about the judgment, why didn't you fight it? Honestly, for the amount of money you are talking about and the time, I doubt there would be a judge who would reopen this small case. You're better off paying it and getting rid of it at this point. Good luck.
