I am a 31 yr old male living in KY, I recently discovered an old warrant that I have from 2001. While in college(in KY), I was given a citation for public intoxication in 2001. It was a prepayable fine, so I sent a money order in and forgot all about it. I recently was applying for a new job in which my employer was going to do a background check. I did a records check with the state just to see what my new employer would now know about me and it was then mailed to my house from the capitol. That is how I discovered I had this warrant. I assume that the money order never reached the destination but you can not check on money orders like you can a check. I am now the sole car providers for my elderly grandparents and they now live with me. They raised me from a child and I wouldn't dare think of putting them in a rest home. I can not afford to spend anytime in jail because of the daily duties that I provide for them, plus I would loose my job also which would just devastate more lives than my own. What should I do? Is there any way of taking care of this without having to just go turn myself in to jail? Could a lawyer be able to take care of this for me? Would this show up on a background check even though it's such a minor offense? What can I do to stay out of jail? Thanks!
