I'm hoping to get some advice or input on my current situation. I work for a 24 hour fuel and food service station in a small town for the past year. The shifts are normally 6 hour shifts when we have a full staff, but for the past 6 months or so we have had trouble keeping employees which means the rest of us have been taking on the extra work load, which seems to be never ending, and also our schedules are changed by the manager without our approval after it's been posted, and we are all just told that like it or not, we all have to deal with it until new employees are hired. The problem is the fact that this has been going on forever now. I usually get scheduled 8, 9, or 10 days straight before getting 1 day off and doing it all over again. Usually the hours are about 35+ per week, but last week I was scheduled for 48 without a break and even then just 1 day off. A while back an acquaintance told me that this is against the law to do so. When I brought this to my managers attention a few months ago, she told me it was not against the law as we get paid every week, so the schedule reads from Saturday to Friday. She claims that as long as I have 1 day off on that schedule, I don't have a complaint. So this means she schedules me off on a Monday for example, and wont give me a day off until Thursday of the following week, and that's the usual for a long time now. If I request a specific day off 3 weeks in advance, she tells me she can't do it as she's under staffed, but she has her weekends off no matter what. I am not the only employee dealing with this, there are 4 of us that continually deal with this as we have stuck around the longest. It wasn't bad until this new manager took over. I used to love my job and it's close to home but it's to the point where I feel I have to find something else as I have no time for my personal life, my family, or to make appointments and such. Most times our schedules aren't even posted until the evening before the new work week starts so it's impossible to make plans ahead to do anything. Any advice is appreciated.
