Online Business Scam

I believe my wife and I fell for an internet scam. Last night we talked in length with a saleman about starting an online business. Long story short we paid 7800.00 on our credit card for their service. After I found out the name of the company, I did some research and found out they have scammed a lot of people out of their money. 45 minutes later we called the credit company to stop the payment. The sales lady said if we cancel within three days we would be charged a 15% transaction fee. We were sent a business agreement via e-mail that we were supposed to sign and fax back but we did not do that. What are our rights on this? I feel that the salesman was not completely honest with us and after finding the bad information about this company after the fact I did not want to use their services afterall. We did not use any of their services.

To begin, I don't know what is wrong with this company and perhaps you just got cold feet. It happens. I don't know why you did the research after having your card charged but that's over and done. I'm also not sure if they solicited you, which you might even be entitled to cancellation within a 72 hour period, mandated by law.

Now who told you that you'd be subject to a 15% transaction fee? This business company? Unless you've signed a writing with this term, I'd demand my money back. If they take off 15%, I'd gladly take what they return and then challenge the charge with my credit card company immediately. But I'm not sure if there were other terms, conditions or circumstances that might apply here and that could certainly result in costs to this company because you decided to back out. I can't help you with that portion and the above is just my impression and what I might do not knowing more. Good luck.

When we intially looked into this business...........It looked like a good deal..........We went through the whole sales process and it looked legit. I searched this busines on various ripoff reports online and it came up clean. So when we got to the end and we were doing the credit authorization the name of the billing company ending up not being the business that we were told and it was this other company, after a couple of quick searches there was a lot negitive things about this company. The nevada BBB had 18 complaints in the last 12 months against this company. Ripoffreport had the company name and the saleman (ours) in their findings. One guy on their broke down the same exact pitch we got but for a totally different business.......My guess is they rotate their business names to make sure people can't find negitive info on them. They had some person record over the phone all their legal jargin and ask if before 3 days is up that we would be charged a 15% retention fee.............I found out the negitive info after this was done. I also found out that the saleman flat out lied about things and I have proof that she did...........As soon as we found out the negitive info we called our credit card company and cancel the deal. Can they take that 15%............we never recieved services, we never signed their business agreement, and we cancelled the deal probably no less then 20 minutes after the credit card was approved. Hopefully that makes more sense to you.
