Does anyone know how many points speed racing tickets are worth in Oregon? Are the points the same for insurance as well as DMV records? One more question, how many points does it take to get a licence suspended?

I was told by one person that his insurance co. counts speed racing as 4 points.

I'm not sure. It seems to be a "Class A" violation and the best place to find out about potential effect on your insurance would be from your insurance company.

811.125 Speed racing on highway; penalty. (1) A person commits the offense of speed racing on a highway if, on a highway in this state, the person drives a vehicle or participates in any manner in any of the following in which a vehicle is involved:

(a) A speed competition or contest.

(b) An acceleration contest.

(c) A test of physical endurance.

(d) An exhibition of speed or acceleration.

(e) The making of a speed record.

(f) A race. For purposes of this paragraph, racing is the use of one or more vehicles in an attempt to outgain, outdistance or prevent another vehicle from passing, to arrive at a given destination ahead of another vehicle or vehicles or to test the physical stamina or endurance of drivers over long distance driving routes.

(g) A drag race. For purposes of this paragraph, drag racing is the operation of two or more vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other, or the operation of one or more vehicles over a common selected course, from the same point to the same point for the purpose of comparing the relative speeds or power of acceleration of the vehicle or vehicles within a certain distance or time limit.

(2) The offense described in this section, speed racing on a highway, is a Class A traffic violation and is applicable on any premises open to the public. [1983 c.338 §568; 1985 c.16 §287]

Oregon Racing Ticket

Oregon and all other states take street racing seriously and you do not want a conviction on your record. If your insurance company does renew your policy it will be at much higher rates.

If you are a minor you need to tell your parents since one of them or an attorney will have to appear in court with you. If you are an adult then retaining an attorney will be cheaper in the long run.

Try the find an attorney link on this site. Only if no one is listed send me a private email and I can provide some more resources. This is not something that you want to do on your own.

im going to have to disagree with the last post. i have had 29 tickets since i was 16 and not once have i been screwed or what not. i admit i have a tendency to race and speed and whatever else you might call it. i have only had my license suspended twice. and not once have i hired an attorney or lawyer. its a waste of money and will you get you no farther then you going to a trial by your self and fighting it. all a lawyer or attorney is going to do is tell the judge exactly what you tell him/her. and as far as insurance, well i have friends that have more tickets then i do, and none of them have any troubles with insurance companies "dropping" them. i havent had a problem either. i pay $93 a month for full coverage. so in my case, and almost every one i know, tickets dont mean anything but a fine and "traffic school" or whatever they call it these days. so dont freak out if you get a speed racing ticket because i got my 7th one tonight and its really not the end of the world. currently, the law on multiple tickets is if you get more then 4 moving violations within 2 years, you get your license suspended for 1 month for each ticket recieved. im not really sure how well that law is enforced because that would mean that it takes 14 1/2 tickets to get a month of suspension. in some cases, you might get nailed for 2 tickets in a year, but from my personal experiences, i havent had a trouble and im going on 30 most likely by the end of the weekend. so like i said, getting a speed racing ticket isnt the end of the world because its just a fine usually a deferral.

What if you're on a side street? This law applies to racing on the highway.
