I am from MD, but I was out in California and bought a car this past Saturday. The guys at the dealership gave me a temp. registration that posts on the window of the car. I don't know if Cali is the only place that does this, but they don't put temp tags on the back of the car the put the temp registration in the window. They told me it was all that I would need to get around until I got the car registered in my home state...I drove to Scottsdale, AZ to visit a friend....

I was driving in Scottsdale, AZ and I got pulled over. They gave me tickets for...no tags ad registration (i tried to explain to him in Cali they don't give you tags, but he didn't care to listen)....and he didn't look at the registration on the window. He also gave me a ticket for not having my insurance card, but I haven't gone home yet so I don't have the updated card (besides this...don't I have 30 days add the car to my insurance?) Lastly....I got a ticket for an illegal lane change (which he said is a 2 point violation). Also...I find it weird but when they ran the VIN on my car it showed that the car was still registered to the individual I bought the car from...who worked at the dealership...

My question pertains to this about what had occurred. Mainly....If I got a DUI a year ago and I am on PBJ in Maryland and I got these tickets....will they affect my PBJ? Is it smarter to go get an Arizona License? What is going to occur? Would I be able to fight the Insurance ticket by phoning my Insurance agent and getting proof. Would I be able to supply my registration paperwork to fight the tag and registration issue?

One other weird question...The officer who wrote the ticket actually put down the officer who claimed to see the illegal lane change....and did not write his own name on my citations....is that acceptable?

I would present all the information that you have on your registration. You do have 30 days when you purchase a new car, and the insurance company will supply you a letter stating you coverage and dates from purchase date.

Was there two officers in the car? He should have disclosed all names involved.

Fight it. Cops do not know the laws as they think they do. The courts will decide what is the law as they should.

I think you have a strong case to have it dissmissed when you present all the correct paperwork.

Unfortunately you will need to retain an attorney in AZ or return for your court date in order to contest.

You could try to send in a motion to dismiss the registration and insurance and include certifed copies of all the paperwork. Usually won't work but it is possible. You need to be sure that you also include a not guilty plea and request for trial if the motion is denied. Send everything CRRR and follow up.

For the lane change some AZ courts will allow online traffic school. Call the clerk.
