i hired a contractor to reside my house. the contract had a finish dat of may 17th. we orally said that money may be deducted if he goes over the finish date. he completed the job after i harrassed him for weeks to do so on june 23rd. am i within my legal rights to deduct a daily rate for the job.? if so how much?

This is far too vague for anyone to do anything other than speculate. What exactly did you agree? What does "may be deducted" mean? Maybe, but maybe not? Why one but not the other?

I suspect you might be within your legal rights to deduct something - "a reasonable amount", perhaps - but what that means is anybody's guess. I also suspect you might have a difficult time proving this oral agreement in the event you do not pay him the full amount and he sues you for the balance.
