I am a hygienist in MA, and due to the economy some of my patients have either not showed up or cancels. My boss tells me that even though I am scheduled a full day but my patients cancels I have to clock out and either leave for the day or stick around to see if any patients get filled in. I seem to think that if I am scheduled the full day and patients cancels I still should be able to get paid something whether I stay and file or not. What is the legal resolution?

atleast your not getting your pay cut and your hours taken away like alot of other people. There is nothing you can do about it besides find a different job

MA is one of the few states that does have a limited reporting pay law, but if you're working a full half-day I don't believe it comes into play (I'd have to look it up and I can't do that till tonight). Outside that, though, you don't have to be paid when you don't work.

If you were being required to stay on the premises until a patient showed up, that would be a different story.
