My jurisdiction is: Mississippi

I had a credit card for Capital one. I lost my job and it got behind. It was far enough behind to make a settlement with their collection company. I made the settlement and made all the required payments on time. Then the account was sent to 3 other debt collection companies(one at a time). They don't believe that I have paid it even though I have the Bank statements and a folder containing letters from all the other companies, bank statements, and credit card statements. I have faxed these papers over and over to each company. They all tell me to get a "Paid" letter, but have no idea where to get it. I have been given several different 800 numbers that all lead me back to the same place. I called the original Creditor and got the most recent debt collector. Noone knows who I should contact or how to fix the problem. They have threatened "legal action" and I said "please do" so I can present all of my paperwork, but no legal action has happened. Please help me figure out who to speak to or how to get this mysterious letter to get everyone off of my back. Thank you!!!

Dispute the amount in writing and tell the credit collectors to not call you. Tell them it was paid in full and that they have been provided proof of the payments and it is their job now to ensure that the debt they bought was valid. Perhaps you might also inform them that if this goes onto my credit report, you'll be bringing that up in court as well! :D Most important - dispute this in writing.
