2 yrs ago I was having to turn in my vehicle as a volunteer repo and buy a vehicle I could afford after my divorce. My dad gave me $1000. 00 in cash. I ended up not needing him as my co signer but did put the cash he gave me down on my new car. He told me it was his money and pay it when I can. My mother wanted nothing to do with it and was against it. (She is a control freek) Every time I gave my dad some money he always ended up giving it back to me for bills or groceries for my children. I didn't ask for it back. Now my mom is threatening to take me to court because the receipt from the dealership was put in my name and wants the money back now. She is calling the dealership to get them to write a new receipt but in my dad's name. He didn't sign any papers and isn't on my loan. What can she actually do to me???? Also can the dealership do that? It has been 2yrs. Pls help me...MRae

The receipt has been written ... why on Earth would they make a new one in your dad's name?

Doesn't your father talk to your mother? It sounds like they need to communicate.

Sadly, she might try to take you to small claims court, then you might be in the un-enviable position of having to call your dad to testify on YOUR behalf.

Is there something you can work out with mom? Does she KNOW you've paid back your dad at least part of the money? Perhaps you can work out a deal to pay back part of the balance owed just to placate her and keep Christmas from being too tense around the house.
