part replaced but won't pay labor.

I live in Connecticut and had a major problem with my truck. Took it to an independent mechanic who fixed it but one major part of the repair was faulty, alledgedly the manufacturers fault. The parts supplier replaced the part but the mechanic says that they or the manufacturer will not pay the labor which will be 1500 to 2000 dollars.
I paid for the repair once and do not feel I should have to pay again. Who is reponsible and what are my options?
