I was hired 3 years ago on a part time basis, and in the begining 30 hours a week was sufficient for the work I was being assigned. 3 years later my responsiblities and daily assignments exponentally grown. I now work between to 34-40 hours a week. I was told by a friend that if I have constently work 35-37, sometimes 40, no less than 34, for more than 2 months that the position must be made into a full time position, by law.
Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated.

No, they do not have to give you a full time position. There is no legal requirement/guideline in NJ that working so many hrs. requires that they give you a full time position. Making someone full time is generally based on company policy or practice.

Nope. There is no standard definition of FT. Individual employers may define it in some way and certain benefit plans may be available to those who met a certain hours threshold. You work the number of hours your employer asks you to work, absent a contract or those in very specific industries (commercial driver, airline pilot, etc.).

Thank you for your help. Looks like it's time to find a different position.

Did you ever ask if you might be considered for a full time position?
