Other Green Card Issue Passport is about to expire vs greencard process

My passport is about to expire in a few months and I am on F1 status. My F1 visa is still valid for few more years. I am also in the process of getting a greencard through my parents. I was wondering if I let my passport expire would it look bad during the greencard interview? I won't be traveling anytime soon. Thanks!
