Hello, I attended a college in the year 2000. I withdrew on December 21st 2000. I am trying to enroll in a new university and when trying to get financial aid I was told that I was in default on a loan from my original school. I have since called them and they admit that the loan was disbursed to them in Jan of 2001 and that they should not have kept it. Well I have also learned that they have put it through to collections and it is now showing up on my credit report. they said that they cant do anything about it until wen at the latest and that they will have to "reallocate" the 500$ loan to somewhere else. (their words) They said that they will report it as a 0$ balance to the government but that will take up to a month to show up on the NSDL. I am supposed to start school on Feb. 3rd. I guess my question is WHAT DO I DO? I mean it is the only negative on my credit report and its not even my debt. They didnt even apologize. Im wondering if there is any recourse I can take? Thank you for reading and in advance for any replies.
