I walked out of walmart in tulsa without paying for 42.00 worth of items. It was a very stupid and irresponsible thing to do. I have never been in trouble with the law before. I have to go to court and I have no idea what to expect or what to do. My main concern is that I don;t want this on my record.

You really should have had that concern before you walked out of the store with merchandise. I would plead not guilty and ask for a court appointed attorney. There should be a first offender program that you can participate in and at the end of your probation your record will again be clean. Go and sin no more!

An active and informed moderator and poster, "jacksgal" knows almost everything about this subject.
She operates a website that offers support and help for people in your position.
She'll offer you some solid advice, along the lines of Brother Harris' words of wisdom.
There is hope, for FIRST (ONLY) time offenders.
This can be washed away, if you plead not guilty and listen to your lawyer.

Walmart will also send you a revenue solicitation, demanding tribute for your, as yet unadjudicated transgression.
When that arrives, do nothing with it, until your criminal case has been resolved.

Actually its my husband who has that knowledge I just pick his brain. JHarris is correct what you want is commonly called "Diversion or ACD. It works like a conviction with fines, probation and the like. Once you complete the program (takes 6 mos to 1 year) your case is dismissed so no record. Talk to your Attorney about this option. Unless you have a prior record or your county has no such program you should qualify. If you like more advice try the link in my signature line it will take you to the site mentioned by Army Judge
