Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Petit larceny

I was caught taking a town political campaign sign. I was given the charge of petit larceny and the officer didn't give me any information of what I am looking at as a punishment. I do not have a criminal record except for a speeding ticket. Should I expect jail time?

Jail is very unlikely your looking at fines, probation, community service and possible classes Ask your Attorney if there is a diversion program you can become part of

You might have been charged incorrectly.

If you just removed the sign, that's a form of vandalism, not theft.

If you took the sign down, and moved it to another location, yeh; that's theft.

Doesn't matter, because you plead not guilty and ask for a lawyer, then shut your pie hole and speak only to your lawyer.

I would expect the charge to be handled as an infraction and that you simply be ordered to pay a fine.
