Hey guys, I was wondering pretty much about my situation for now and what I should do. Pretty much back in 4/15/09 I was caught shoplifting, and had it totally payed off by september, or october of that year. I was caught recently for the last time...>.> in january and have a court date on 3/13/10. im 20 years old and i dont know what to expect. i live in nevada if that changes anything...however, I want to try to make a deal with the judge or whoever it is i'm so supposed to do that with about joining the military in exchange for possibly changing the offense name or no jail time. ive talked to my recruiter and he has told me that he would have to sign a waiver for me to enter with the 2nd charge, so if this charge may stop me from enlisting, especially in this time of war and all...it may carry some weight. i need information on how i should go about doing this and what i should expect. any help would be very much appreciated.

Deals when you dont learn your lesson the first time are hard to come by. I would not pursue this without the help of an Attorney. I would also suggest you enroll in an Anti Shoplifting course (before court) this will show Judge your being proactive an dmight sway him to what your suggesting. We cannot say for sure a local Attorney will know the judges and how they rule best. I recommend the course offered by NASP.

okay so after this course, how will the judge know I took it? and i don't know really anything about the courts, but don't I already have a public defender? how would I get ahold of them?

okay sorry i just looked through it a bit more thoroughly. pretty much i just need to know if i already have a PD, and if so, how do i contact them. otherwise, should i seek free consultation, because theres no way i can afford a lawyer.

and how may i find out my judges name ahead of time? by the way, my deal with the military was simply to keep me out of jail. i dont care about probation, or public service, or the fine if i have to. i know to expect any combination of that, and i also knew to accept that possibility when i did it, however...i didn't think about jail..i know stupid move. however, would jail time be likely even after the idea of military and this class?
