My boyfriend was a server at a restaurant. A man left his camera on the table when he left. My boyfriend cleaned off the table and put it in the back on his bosses desk, figuring the guy would come back for it later. FOUR or so hours later, he did. However, moments prior, my boyfriend had sliced the tip of his finger off while slicing veggies for the salad bar. You know how you get when you're losing a lot of blood; spacey, wanting to vomit, passout, can't think straight. He tells the guy that he doesn't know where the camera is, and it is obvious that he is injured (towels around finger soaked in blood). No other employees know where the camera is because my boyfriend never told anyone that he put it in the back. So the guy calls the police. My boyfriend figures they're going to search his car, so he goes and takes the marijuana out of his car. The camera guy is watching him and when the police come, tells them that he took something from his car and brought it inside. Police ask my boyfriend, and he is honest and explains the marijuana. While he is in the back of the restaurant explaining this, he spots the camera on his bosses desk, grabs it, and gives it to the guy. At this time, the cops arrest him for petty larceny and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was never read his rights. He is handcuffed, and taken to the hospital. When the ER person explains that it'll be a few hours, police don't want to wait (denied medical treatment), so they take him to the station and mugshot & fingerprint him. He is to appear in court tomorrow. He has never been accused of any other misdemeanors or higher crimes. He has been charged with the UPM in the past and has paid the fines and been done with it. I'm really worried about what is going to happen. He didn't steal this guy's camera. Help?

I also want to add that my boyfriend is 22 years old, and like I said, has never been accused of a misdemeanor or anything before, just a UPM violation in the past. He cannot afford a lawyer. He lost his job because of bringing the marijuana into the store. He inquired about getting an attorney appointed to him, and they told him that on his court date the judge would advise him on getting a lawyer. And when the police took him to the station, he was still bleeding and ready to passout.
