Dear sir,

I got caught at Costco in San Diego for stealing a knife set- I did put 2 sets in one original box and only paid for one. The value is $149.99. Police was called, I was handcuffed and gave a citation of CA penal code 484A.

Given that I am a female, 37 years of age, perfectly clean records and excellent credit score, being a teacher at 2 part-time locations, what will be the maximum sentence that I will be having for such case?

Should I seek help from an attorney? Any recommendation for a SD attorney for such case?

Thanks.

Your first move should be to remove store name and item taken from your post unless you want it possibly used against you. Next yes seek out an Attorney and discuss your plea options. I doubt anyone here can recommend one so call as many as you can and meet with each one then decide

If you're looking for an attorney, ask your friends, relatives, and co-workers.

Then speak to the attorney about your case.

If the attorney doesn't handle your particular problem, he or she might be able to recommend a colleague.

As a professional, you do not want this to stain your previously good name.

How do you avoid that?

You shut up about this from this point forward.

SPEAK ABOUT THIS TO NO ONE, EXCEPT THE ATTORNEY YOU WILL EVENTUALLY HIRE.

You appear at all court proceedings, on time, dressed in business attire (it shows the court you take this seriously), and display proper decorum at all times.

You stay out of all trouble until this is resolved.

If you're smart, you never place yourself in this position, ever!!!!!!!!

You retain an attorney (if you can't afford one, ask the court to appoint one to represent you), plead NOT GUILTY, follow the instructions the court will give you, stay trouble and crime free, work with your lawyer to get this gorilla off your back.

How?

If your record is pristine (or slightly soiled), you can get this charged wiped away.

You and YOUR LAWYER can work to have the charge dismissed,

You might be required to take a class on honesty, ethics, choices, etc...

You could be put on probation, if you are, do everything they instruct.

Time will pass, you will pay some money (who cares how much at this point, just get it LEGALLY), stay out of trouble, complete all classes and/or counseling, and allow time to pass.

You go back to court.

The court is apprised of your progress and success.

The judge speaks, you listen, this will be but a memory.

Tomorrow starts today.
