Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Petty theft first offense

I was stopped by undercover (retail store) security for having items under a diaper bag which were baby nipple. They took me I to security where there was a police officer. The girl searched my bag where u also had a few makeup items. All in all everything was worth $70. The security girl filled out paperwork and gave me a paper saying I will get a fine from the store. The police officer then filled out a paper where at the top I noticed it said arrest report but I never signed anything or was ever booked or handcuffed. He then gave me a desk appearance ticker that says petit larceny and I have to go to court next week. My question is it being my first attempt will i receive jail time or just a fine and probation since I have no criminal history whatsoever. Thank yoi

You need to get a lawyer or have the court appoint one if you can't afford one. Plead not guilty. A lawyer will get you the best outcome possible. I don't see jail time. You will get a request through the mail from the store for a civil demand fine. You need to ask your attorney about ACD or diversion as plea options.

If you have no prior crimes of any kind jail is very unlikely. Talk to an Attorney about plea options and ask about ACD or Diversion as plea options
