I was arrested a few weeks ago for stealing about $65 worth of makeup from Store name. They were going to just file a police report and let me off the hook since I felt guilty and I was extremely sorry. I didn't run and I handed them the items I was planning to walk out with. But when the police showed up I think they convinced the manager/employees to prosecute. I spent one night in jail. I was bailed by pretrail services since it is my first adult offense. I hired an attorney, but he has not given me much information on the case so far. My court date is in 2 weeks. My attorney told me deferred adjudication is not an option since I have 2 prior juvenile convictions, Domestic Violence. We had a family argument twice when I was 16 and it got out of hand between all of us. Anyway, I am wondering in the state of Texas what my conviction might be with a prior juvenile record?? My attorney said 6 months probation, but wasn't too clear after that. What might be the court fees? I just got a job, will I end up losing it? I am losing my mind because I have no idea what's to come!

Your Attorney will know best but if I was to guess it would be as follows. (I will address job issue afterwards)

. Probation
. Fines less than $500.00
. Criminal record
. Possible classes (they will cost but unknown amount)
. Ban from victim (store)

Note this are guesses as we cannot predict outcomes

Now about your job if they find out they can legally fire you yes. If convicted you will have a criminla record in which any routine background check will uncover.

Even if I have a juvenile record and this is not a repeated attempt at shoplifting, can I still take a deferral program or class, community service to get it off my record or hidden? Or because I already have a record (even though it was when I was a minor) I still can't do any kind of deferral programs? This doesn't make sense. Thanks for all your help and replying so quickly. I just have an extreme amount of anxiety and guilt over the situation, so much so that I've thought about suicide as a means to get out :(

Ok nothing here is that serious and if your entertainning such thoughts see someone right away! If an Attorney told you you cannot seek Diversion or like then he is proably right. However do not let that stop you from consulting another Attorney to be sure
