Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Petty Theft

I got a ticket for theft my court date is coming up here soon. About a few weeks ago my former roommates card was used to purchase Jimmy Johns under my phone number. She proceeded to call the cops on me, then I got a ticket. I have no other charges on my record. The evidence against me is my phone number & the texts that I sent her after the confrontation. What should I do about this, is there any hope for me? It was a charge for under 10$.

The cost to fight this will exceed cost of fine. Its up to you but ask about plea deals that can reduce charges and/or keep your record clean.

When you appear in court simply ask for an attorney when the time comes. Do not go there and plead guilty without speaking to an attorney. You will likely have to return at a later date to meet with the attorney and consider your options.
If you are told that you are not allowed an attorney then ask if you are being charged with a misdemeanor or an infraction. A $10 theft may be handled as a simple infraction for which you will simply have to pay a fine. An infraction will not result in a criminal record, so no attorney.
