Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft petty theft

I went to Fry's yesterday for shopping pc parts. I baught a couple of items $120 which I was sure of kowing to fit in my pc upgrade. Other three items woths $350 that I was not sure about being compatibilities with my pc and decided to take first without paying them. I opened the box and took them in pockets. After I paid the first two items I was about to leave the store when the security caught me and too me in a room. They arrested me, took my info and picture. Then they called police. The Police took my finger print and gave a misdemeanor ticket citing petty theft case. The store today filed the charge. My court date is Aug 24th. This is my very first ofefnce and arrest in my life. Please someone tell me how I should deal with this issue.

1. Should I hire a lawer and plead not guilty?
2. Should I pelad guity w/o lawer and ask the judge for a probation?

How the probation works? How long mu criminal record stay in case of probation?

I have about a similar case to you and I try to call the court number that the police give me and they said it will cost me to pay US$88 for a government Attroney. My case is in LA and how about yours? My court date is Aug 17 which is earlier than you so I might can help you after I get to know the procedure. It is my first time too on the arrest and asking to go to court in my lifetime.

I have checked a couple of yellow page and the attronery fee is just crazily high.

Hire a lawyer

Stop what you are doing and hire an atty, they are well versed in these types of cases.
