I have been working in the same workplace for the past 6 1/2 years. My supervisor continuously belittles my work as well as the work of others. He constantly asks the workers to go home for the day if they speak or act against him. His form of communication towards the workers is extremely demeaning and explicitly says that he will not change his ways and if any of the workers does not like it they can go home. He has threatened to fire me multiple times when I attempt to defend my self because he constantly changes his instructions and expectancies from my work. He has also threatened to physically hurt me (twice) because I don't agree with what he says or his demands.

He has made other employees quit because they rather not deal with his maltreatment. The owner of the shop has been told of this supervisors actions against employees and has failed to address them properly. The harassment and belittlement continues.

You can find a new employer at any time.
If you are in a situation where that is unreasonable then you can consider making a hostile work environment claim... but the smaller the company is the less successful that will be.

The term, hostile work environment, has a very specific meaning in employment law and while I am sure that the situation is very unpleasant, it is not an HWE as defined by law.

No, it doesn't. A hostile work environment, under employment law, exists when the employee is being subjected to either sexual harassment or illegal discrimination/harassment under Title VII and related laws. It has nothing to do with threats of any kind from the supervisor unless those threats are related a characteristic protected under the law, or to sexual harassment.

Ok, so hostile, just not legally hostile :p
There still may be options within the company, and the larger the better.
And there is always the option of finding a new job.
