First a little background. I am currently separated from my husband who is a US Marine and currently stationed in Japan. We have been separated for about a year now and are using this time to use our combined income to pay down our debts so theres less for us to have to take on individually. We are both being civil and do not want to ruin each others lives in this divorce. We have mutually agreed that we just cannot make things work out and no longer love each other.
Now to the main question:
We are hoping to file divorce by the end of the year (he will be in the same country as me and our debts will be manageable) My main question is that I am looking to trade in our truck (with his permission) for a car that will have cheaper payments and be better on gas. If I were to do this before we file for divorce could I possibly lose the car in the divorce or can I opt to willingly take over the payments and keep the car? (His parents bought the car he purchased before we got married with intent on selling it back to him in the event we needed a second car again once he was back in the US)
