Hi,

ive been arrested for patronizing a prostitute and plead guilty to a violation (offered by the judge),

I want to know where do i stand now in terms of background checks and sealing my record:

when and how can I seal my record?
how can i reduce the chances to have my record not showing on background checks?

pls advice

thank you

Unless you are a minor you are pretty much out of luck as far as sealing this record.

Short of reversing the judgment on appeal or vacating it via some sort of collateral attack, the record will show as a conviction on your criminal record forever. By criminal record, I mean your department of justice RAP sheet.

And even if you you reverse the matter on appeal or vacate it, it will still show on your RAP sheet - just updated to show "reversed" or "vacated."

In some states you can expunge the conviction, which means it will not exist for civil purposes, or for most purposes, but this does not seal the conviction, or make it go away on that RAP sheet. The RAP sheet will just be updated to show "Expunged."

In most states, after ten years, the court file on a misdemeanor is destroyed, which means you could deny it ever happened for court purposes, but it will still remain on your RAP sheet.

In short - there is nothing you can do to make this go away. It will remain a permanent part of your computerized RAP sheet forever.
