Hi guys thanks for reading,

So yesterday I impulsively decided to shoplift some shoes from a store in the downtown of Canadian city. I felt confident at the time that there was no security tags on the shoes and casually put them in my backpack (worth $58). I then bought a different pair of shoes (using my debit card) and proceeded to the exit where I set off the alarm as I was opening the door. I stopped, turned around (internally freaking out) and a friendly clerk came up to me and started asking me routine questions like "oh you maybe bought something earlier that set it off'" etc etc. I was just really stunned and was like oh yeah maybe that's it... Then another clerk came and they began asking me to open my bag and so I did because I didnt know what else to do and they saw the shoes immediately and were like oh did you pay for these? Where is your receipt? And I clumsily tried looking around for it. And then was just like ok I'm just going to leave these shoes here with you and leave and they were like no! you have to stay here and they started calling security I think but adrenaline took over and I booked it out of the store and ran far away. Don't know if anyone was following me but I doubt it....

My question is: will they take the time and effort to figure out who I am and track me down or get the cops to track me down for attempting to steal??? I guess they could figure out that I had bought something with my debit and call my bank and get my info to find out who I am and then give the cops my info to track me down or send a fine or something to my house?? Would they go through the trouble to do this?

Im so paranoid and scared...any information would be very greatly appreciated.

And im guessing I should never go back this store right? What about other locations of the same chain? Will they have my pic up in their stores or something and try and charge me if I ever go back in??

Thanks!

There is no guarantee reply. However yes if store decides to pursue charges they can turn over all evidence to Police and then file a complaint. The the Police will have until statute of limitations runs out to arrest you

Ok. How likely is this too happen though? It's a very busy store in a very busy shopping district. Is it likely they will try and link my debit info with me and try and find me?

Ok thanks for your quick response. Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation? Should I be worried?

Its happend lots of times and results are mixed. I or anyone can point cases that go both ways this does not reflect what will happen in your case. In short you basically need to look over your shoulder for at least the next year

Any time I have enough evidence to file a Police report I do it!! There is no reason to get plates, call for help etc if they arent taking action. If this LP is worth his weight and pay he will get the required info to turn over to Police and file report. Stores lose billions (with a "B") to shoplifters so catching you and making you pay are important. Most LP take their jobs serious your getting away will unnerve most. Yes expect them to do whatever they can to ID you and have you face court trial! So now you can look behind you at every turn for Police to arrest you. They can do this in any number of ways. They have at very least one year to get you so they dont need to hurry
