Please help we need advice about inheritance

Hello my mother in law's husband whom she has been separated from for over 23 yrs past away last year and she states that she does not want any of the inheritance. We need to find out if she signs away her rights to it will it effect her SSI or disability. Also need to know if she would still be liable for any tax on the inheritance.

If she renounces the inheritance, then she doesn't get anything so there will be no tax and it won't affect her SSI or disability.
