2 yrs ago, my grandfather died. He didn't have a will so his estate went to probate. He was survived by his second wife and 3 daughters from his first marriage. During the 2 yrs after his death, requests have been made for full disclosure of his estate and a copy of his death certificate. When the requests were made his second wife huffed and puffed about not needing to disclose the value of his estate since she was protected by survivors' rights. We finally got paperwork stating the values of the various things that make up his estate. They came on her lawyer's letterhead (not from the tax assessor's office or his financial advisor and no copies of those documents were included). Soon after, we received a quitclaim deed and a $10 check for the portion of the house my mother and her sisters have claim to. They refused to sign the quitclaim deed, so my grandfather's 2nd wife has filed a petition for year's support in which she claims that she's entitled to 1/2 the amount of the estate which came on lawyer's letterhead. We feel grandpa's 2nd wife is trying to screw us(1st family) out of what is supposed to be coming to us. My questions are: How do we go about getting an official tally for the value of my grandfather's estate? How do we go about contesting the petition for year's support?

Thank You in Advance

The first thing you need to dois to contact the probate court and get a complete copy of the file. Then take the file to an attorney for advice.
