I am being charged with possession of a controlled substance < 1g
I was looking for work with someone I met through my family who was knowledgeable about the area. I let him drive my car. We visited several farms that day to ask if anyone needed help with their chicken houses, etc. My car was stopped while driving through the city for expired tags. The police searched my car and found a pill bottle containing crack cocaine under the driver seat. I was riding in the passenger side. I was questioned as to what this bottle was. I replied that I didn't know what it was and it wasn't mine. The officer said, "Well, it's your car, you are supposed to know what is in your car." So I was arrested. I'm not sure what the person who the substance belonged to will say in court, because I have since heard that previously he was caught with drugs and tried to blame it on someone else.
I am wondering what is going to happen. If he confesses that the substance wasn't mine will I still be charged, or what if I can get evidence that the bottle doesn't have my fingerprints, can I still be charged for possession?

drug user wasn't questioned, he was already arrested and put in police car for driving with suspended license before drugs were found

Have you been arrested/convicted of anything?

The drug user's past history should hopefully compel the police to charge him, and leave you alone. There's no steadfast rule that whoever owns the car is responsible for what is found in it, especially when the drug was within reach of the person driving more so than yourself

Good Luck.

No, I have never been arrested or convicted before, which is one reason why I am so upset. I have 100 hours of college credit and I wanted to work toward a degree in accounting, but having a felony on my record will certainly make any plans of holding a professional job go down the drain.
