Sex Crimes, Sex Offenders Police Discussing Investigations in public

We heard today that a person being investigated for a crime "ran into"' the investigating officer in public (Arby's) and discussed the case with the officer. Is it permitted to discuss legal proceedings in a pubic setting where others can listen and hear?

Law enforcement personnel will always listen to suspects.

If what you say is true, it wasn't illegal.

I would call it stupid on the part of the suspect, and brilliant on the part of the LEO.

I wasn't there, but my guess is the alleged "perp" approached the LEO who simply listened.

LEOs will rarely reveal useful information to alleged "perps".

On the other hand, alleged "perps" have been known to spill their guts more rapidly than geese suffering from diarrhea relieve their bowels.

Absolutely, yes! I couldn't hope for a better setting to interview a suspect. There is no expectation of privacy, no detention, no need to give Miranda warning, and almost no chance of allegations of intimidation or other inappropriate conduct by police.

That's when the perp becomes a "gone goose" or a "cooked goose."
