Long story short - After leaving a party one Saturday night my friend who is on probation was driving (speeding) home when the cops pulled us over. I had in my possession 1.5 grams of Marijuana when the police searched me. The Police from there issued me a misdemeanor ticket for possession of marijuana. I life in California, and my question is will this go on my record? and if so is there any way I can have this removed from my record? I work in the IT field and I'm worried this could bite me in the ass later in life....

Thank you for your help.

Yes, if convicted you will have a criminal record. However, marijuana possession is generally expunged after two years (the only crime in CA that is), but it will also dog you as private investigation firms, law enforcement, and courts may still possess those records years down the road.

A similar situation in NorthCarolina. My 18 yr old daughter was caught with a small amount of marijunia (less than 1/2 oz) cited and was advised by police officer to ask for "prayer of judgement" could you explain and does she need to be present? ( we live in Vt)
