Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication Possession of a Controlled Substance

Which would be better, having a public defender assigned to a case or scrapping up the money to get an attorney? Friend has been in jail for possession charge before. This charge and the other charge were both for under 1 gram charges.

Public defenders are lawyers. Some public defenders are excellent, some are not worth shooting...the same as private lawyers.
