This is actually for my father. He's 54 years old and is an employee that works from home for a telecommunications company. My father has not received a raise in 7 years, the first 4 years was due to everyone was supposedly on a "freeze" and the next 3 years, he got a new manager and dropped my dad's ranking so he's no longer in the 10% that receive raises or bonuses. My dad is an extremely hard worker and always has been. He works 10-14 hrs a day, doing online security for the company and gets paid $20k less than the average employee in his same field, based on a pay scale website, even with his 17 years at his company. Can my father sue his company for discrimination or at least get the wages he's lost?
I say this because I'm worried for his health. He has high blood pressure/cholesterol, every time I see him he's working and stressed out. When he talks to his boss, he's very timid. He's grown more and more depressed over the years. He basically went from being a pioneer in his company in the security field to a nobody.
I personally believe he should find a better company to work for but with his self esteem, I don't know if he'd be able to bring himself to look.
