I was at a well known name store where i was caught shoplifting with a friend. We are still 17 so juveniles but was charged with burglary and conspiracy. This is my first offense and for her, its her second. She took something that was worth 17 dollars and i took something that was worth 60 dollars. We had a previous receipt that we brought earlier that day and went into the store and picked out the same exact items as on the receipt and went to guest services and returned it for cash refund. We brought other things and we were stopped and went into the office. We told them the partial truth because we were freaking out and i only named one of the stuff i stole because my mind wasn't functioning. They assumed i was lying more than my friend. I need not know that she was going to steal because we parted our ways because i wanted to buy something else and along the way, i decided to pick up store items that matched the receipt and return it. We did not origanlly have an intent to steal but just got into it at the moment. They had someone following us and they have video proof of it all. Also, they had proof that 2 weeks ago i did the same thing that costs 14 dollars and my friend did not steal anything. The police came and dropped the previous case that was 2 weeks ago but im not so sure if they wrote it down in their police report or not. Since it is my first offense, I want to get diversion for punishment...but i dont know. Inside the office of the store, i had a lot of inconsistency but it was the truth but in a mixed up and unbelievable manner. I will never steal ever again and i am and definately will change and what is the worst punishment i can get? The most probable? And the best case senario? And same with my friend. What should we do in court? Plead guilty or what? Please and thank you for you patience.

Nothing in your story reads like a felony so I am unsure why you titled your topic the way you did. Diversion programs and their availabilty vary. Your first action should be to start calling Lawyers many offer free consultations get as many as you can. They can tell you if Diversion in your case is option or not. I would further suggest you enroll in an Anti shoplifting program as it appears you might have a theft problem.
