My husband and I have been separated for a month. I have moved to a different state than where he is. He has been admitted to the hospital with liver disease and is heavily sedated. He is not able at this point to sign any papers. I need to get power-of attorney so that I can pay his bills. How would I go about doing this?

What other relatives are there? You can petition the court for guardianship. If he is not competent, he cannot sign a POA. You may be liable for his hospital bills depending on state law. It is time for you to visit an attorney.
