Privacy Concerns

I recently found out that one people search site lists my full name and current address when one does a reverse phone look up on my cell number. I have no idea who sold my personal information to them, which was very wrong. I rarely (if ever) use my cell number in forms. Due to privacy concerns, I wish to have at least my address removed from their record; they refuse to do that, however, even though other similar sites or businesses (e.g. Intelius) do it! I would like to know if there is anything I can do to "make" them honor my request. Perhaps the more important question is are cell phone numbers public? I thought only landline phone numbers were public.

Every time you use any number by giving to anyone, you run the risk of it going public.

If you want privacy, never give your number to anyone for any purpose.

I always use a dummy number I held years ago.

I've since changed every number and give them only to close relatives.

The pizza delivery guy sells your number, the pharmacy sells it, your physician sells it, the Chinese restaurant sells it, everyone sells the number you provide them.

Change all your numbers and don't give them out to anyone but close and personal associates.

No, there is nothing you can do about this. You can't prove how your number was compromised. Since I've stopped giving mine out about five years ago, they're no longer in the public domain.
