What is the name of your state? Virginia

I left a camcorder at a place of business and called right away for them to hold it at the counter.

When I came to pick it up about 1 hr later, one of the workers made the comment "we just got done watching your video" and made another comment about the specific footage that was on the tape. I also have a witness that saw them searching through footage in the video.

What can I do about this?

Q: What can I do about this?

A: Don't leave videos in your camcorder.

What an ignorant response.

Actually, judge is right on target. There is very little you can do. Honestly, what were you expecting? To begin, if someone leaves a camera without any information, the finder doesn't know who it belongs to - if it isn't abandoned. The only way to identify who it may belong to is to look at the pictures/videos. What were you expecting?

Let's assume they did watch the videos. Are you ready to file a court case? Assuming there is a cause of action you can sue for, what are your actual damages?

they did not look through the footage to find out the identity of the owner because I frequent the business and they know me by name and I called the moment I realized I left the camcorder and they knew it was mine. Also, the witness and the employee stated that they watched it about 1 hr later.

It still doesn't seem like you suffered any legally recognizeable damages because of this. I understand how you might have felt violated though. Sorry!

Bottom line: No crime, no tort, no cause of action.

You can always express your ire with the management and tell them you will never come back into their business again.

What was it you thought you might be able to do? Or what did you hope you could do?
