I had a car that I was leasing and decided to turn in early. My exwife called the finance company and they gave her the details of what went on. The car was in my name only and she was never given authorization by me to access any of my account information. She then went around telling everyone that my car was repossessed, friends, family, and posting on a popular website which many of my customers and people who refer me business have direct access to. I feel this has hurt my professional reputation. My question is do they have the right to release this type of information? Seems to me that this would be a very confidential matter and I feel like my rights have been violated.

Thank you in advance for any help

I'm sorry no one answered this question for you. They definitely violated your privacy and the Fair debt reporting act. Further your exwife could be guilty of tortious interference with a business relationship if you can prove that her spreading this information damaged your business relationships.
