It is our school's policy (In our handbook) to confiscate cell phones/electronic devices when in use during class time. My question is: Do they have a right to take my personal property? The items must be collected after school by a parent/guardian.

It seems rather dubious to me that they have the right to A) Hold your personal property after hours and B) especially since it isn't 'illegal.' (Read: Drugs/weapons.)

If someone could point me to some statutes or a proper place/contact to ask this question I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

They aren't following any law. They are enforcing the school procedure. YOu can go the board and argue, but they won't budge.

We don't have the handbook, can't look it up. Never the less, the school has a policy, and if you are on that property you must follow the policy.
