My mother passed away last June. My sister was named Executor, my sister and I have not had a good relationship for many years - she also did not have a close relationship with my mom.
My mom wrote a list (unsigned and separate from her Will) of items that she wished certain people to have. My sister took 2 items (Royal Doulton bowls) that were on the list for me, she still has them and says she is keeping them.
On the same token - I ended up with a needlepoint picture that my mom had written on the list for one of her friends. I called the friend and offered to give her the picture as it was meant for her, my mom's friend told me that she would rather that I kept the picture and wrote a note (signed it too) explaining that she was relinquishing the picture to me.
My sister (the Executor) was upset that I ended keeping the picture and went to my mom's lawyer (who dealt with the Will) regarding this.
I sent the copy of the note to the lawyer and also wrote the lawyer mentioning the fact that my sister still had the 2 bowls that my mom had wanted me to have.
I then got a letter from the lawyer that said my sister was applying for a Grant of Probate of my mom's Estate. That's all I've heard so far.
What does this mean?
Is it right that my sister took these 2 items from the list even though they were written down for me?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
