I have had a Green Card since 1990- and have lived and worked in the US since them. I will be doing some extensive travel and would like to apply for Citizenship to assure retention of my status here. How long does the process of Citizenship take, how much does it cost and can I do it on my own without a lawyer? Also during the application process can I be outside of the US for some time? thanks for your help.
