 On october 1 i had a telephone conversation with my area manager in which we discussed promoting me to the assistant manager of the store i work at. I have had some minor issues with my coworkers and the way i related to them. (I am a stuborn person and sometimes i can make people think that things have to be done my way or no way. I have been working on correcting this for quite a while.) In my conversation with my area manager i was told that depending on my the way things go over the next month or so with this issue I would be promoted or not. I was told if i continue to show improvement that i would be and if no changes for the better were made that i would not be. at the begining of november i took my yearly vacation and when i returned to work i was told by my store manager that another individual was being transfered in to fill that position. My area manager had not called and talked with my store manager about me and he had not called and talked to me about why i was not getting the promotion. (unprofessional in my opinion.) I feel that he was never going to promote me to begin with at this point and that he was just pulling y chain.

I believe that i was discriminated against because i am a woman. With in the area that i work women are promoted slower then males if at all. Also there are no store manager in his area and there are only two female assistant managers in my area. Also there are more males then females in the area (i do understand that the industry that i am in is male dominate).

When i found out about this transfer i talked with my manager to find out what he thought of my preformance in the area i was to improve on and change and fe felt that i had taken is critism to hard and was tring to make changes. After taking with him i called the HR department and filed a suit. I am wondering what i should expect at this point? How long should i give HR to respond before taking it to the next level (reporting issue to government)?

I also applied for a position with this company in another area. I know that it should not effect this however what should and should not happen is not always clear. Are there ways to find out if this reporting caused me to not recieve the position?

You could file a complaint with the EEOC or the state equivalent. However, it the burden of proof would be on you to show that the ONLY reason you were denied the promotion was because of your gender.
