If you have cancelled checks, credit card receipts, bank statements (indicating PROOF of payment); those things will help.

If you have copies of money orders, that will help.

If you paid by cash, then produce your receipts.

Without any PROOF to back up your assertions, no one will believe you.

If no one believes you because you have no proof, you'll have to pay again.

If you pay again, keep your receipts.

If you don't pay, you'll also lose your driving privileges and they'll hound you to pay.
